The story of Paul and Silas in prison, worshipping God in the midst intense tribulation in such an important characteristic of an overcoming spirit and is often overlooked and undervalued.
When darkness increases so usually does our desperation and confusion. Hope begins to fade and the fire of fervent faith begins to suffocate and die.
What made Paul and Silas different? There was a conviction in their heart, a non-negotiable choice to not let the darkness change their mind about God’s goodness, faithfulness and sovereignty.
As things got darker, they turned up the light. When despair began to speak louder, they began to worship even more loudly. When confusion began to twist reason and beg vain questions, they responded with the answer that is always true.
God is Lord, He is good, and ever-faithful. This truth was settled in their hearts as irrefutable and nothing and no one were going to change their mind or allegiance.
So when the darkness is so dark it’s almost tangible, when the mind has no reason to hope, and the battle seems all but lost, what are you going to do? What have you determined the truth to be in your heart?
I say turn up the light!
