No matter our age, race, or origins, no matter our story, our perspective, or our sin, and no matter our beliefs, opinions, or hopes and fears, we’re all just people.
Do you want to reach people for God? Start with showing compassion, meeting people in their mess, entering their dark world, and sitting with them a while. You don’t have to address their sin, their faulty beliefs, or their twisted perceptions. Simply be the light, through kindness. Uphold their dignity by being a friend.
You don’t save people, God does. You walk with people as a light until they find themselves in the dawn. Teaching and preaching are for those who are already drawn to God. It’s God’s lovingkindness, seen in our humble compassion, gentle companionship, and merciful treatment of people, made in His image, that draws them.
Be the steadfast friend, not one that carries them, but the one that walks beside them. Don’t criticize or judge them. Conviction is the domain of the Holy Spirit. Simply be the example, the steadfast friend, the voice of comfort and compassion.
Be Jesus, so they can recognize Him when they open the door of their heart to His knocking.
Just People
