We can't inherit salvation through natural lineage, nor can we achieve it through sheer willpower, or even earn it by how hard we work for it. It isn't something we deserve or something we are owed.
It is said that God loves you as you are. That isn't entirely accurate. God doesn't love what you've become. God loves you for who you are, His beloved creation, destined to be like Him and with Him. God loves you where you are at, but He loves you too much to leave you there.
Trusting God is love, love is obedience, obedience is repentance.
"Do not weary yourself to gain wealth; Stop dwelling on it. When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens." Proverbs 23:4-5
There is this partnership with God in our development. We're not equal partners by any means, but we are meant to work hand in hand with God, in building His kingdom, and part of that includes us.
The reason the bible says "do not fear," over 360 times is because, fear indicates you're listening to a voice other than God's, Fear indicates you've begun to believe a lie.
This is the bedrock that our relationship with the Father should be founded upon.
